Oliver Stoll

I have been working as a Research Associate at the Institute of Innovation and Technology Management (IIT) since 2019. I am part of the project team involved in the research project SmartTwin and investigate the design, development and commercialization of smart services. With my dissertation, I am currently conducting research on digitally enabled industrial product service systems.

In my scientific work, I focus on digital servitization around digital enabled product service systems, based on an Action Research methodology.

From 2012 to 2016, I studied Industrial Engineering with specialization in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Science) at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. I continued my studies at said university, majoring in Business Engineering with specialization in Product and Service Innovation (Master of Science) from 2017 to 2019.

Currently, I am doing my PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) exploring digitally enabled industrial product service systems as part of the SmartTwin project. This project aims to prototype Digital Twins in six different industrial environments to explore how it can be designed to improve business outcomes over the whole lifecycle. A service and business model-oriented concept for the twin will be developed and implemented in different industries, to support decision making along the product lifecycle of capital equipment.

The research I have carried out in recent years focused on designing and applying the Data2Action framework, exploring ways in which field data can be exploited to create the right insights and identify the right action to be taken. The Data2Action Model is designed to approach the topic of digitalisation and IoT from a business and customer perspective rather than from the product/technology perspective and provides guidance toward the development of innovative digital-solutions or information-based advanced data-driven services.
